CM, ministers pay last respects to Chandraprabha Urs

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G Parameshwara, along with other ministers and people’s representatives, paid their last respects to former minister Chandraprabha Urs, who died on Tuesday, at her house in the city, on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Parameshwara, Revenue Minister V Srinivas Prasad, Cooperation Minister H S Mahadev Prasad, MLC Motamma, MLAs Tanveer Sait, Vasu, M K Somashekar, Chikkamadu, Venkatesh and Sa Ra Mahesh visited Urs’ house on Vani Vilas Road.

Speaking to media persons, Siddaramaiah said, Chandraprabha Urs was like her father former chief minister late D Devaraj Urs and had great concern for the people of deprived classes and strived for the welfare of backward classes.

“We have lost a great politician, who adhered to values and ethics,” he added.

G Parameshwara said, “Chandraprabha Urs had adopted her father’s theory in life. She was a powerful and a great politician with her own identity.”

Women’s voice

MLC Motamma, recalling her association with Chandraprabha Urs, said, “Urs was the voice of women. Being president of Congress women wing state unit, Chandraprabha Urs provided several opportunities for women in politics. Her guidance for me (Motamma) and Rani Satish was unique. She was an inspiration to oppose Bangarappa as no woman was included in his Cabinet,” she said.

Mysuru Urban Development Authority Chairman K R Mohan Kumar, former minister M Shivanna, former MP Siddaraju, Mysuru ZP former president Marigowda, historian Nanjaraj Urs and people paid their last respects. The body was taken to Kallahalli, in Hunsur taluk for cremation.
