The District Lokayukta Special Court on Monday issued summons to leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, K S Eshwarappa, his son K E Kantesh and daughter in-law Shalini, directing them to appear before the court for a hearing on June 7 in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

The judge, J M Khaji, issued the summons after the High Court of Karnataka directed the Shivamogga Lokayukta court to look into the matter.

A city-based advocate, B Vinod, had filed a case before the District Lokayukta Special Court in 2012 accusing Eshwarappa, his son and daughter-in-law of amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income. The complainant had also charged the BJP leader with misusing his power when he was the deputy chief minister. However, the accused approached the high court seeking a stay on the probe which was almost complete.

The high court had stayed the probe on the ground that the complainant had not obtained permission for prosecution. Later, the complainant re-represented the case when Eshwarappa stepped down as the deputy chief minister. Following this, the high court directed the special Lokayukta court to look into the matter.
