After lakhs of applications submitted by parents to get seats for their wards under the RTE quota got rejected following possible glitches in the Education department’s software, Commissioner for Public Instructions V Ponnuraj chaired a meeting on Wednesday to address the issue

.

Following a video conference on the cases that they had come across in the recent past, the commissioner met block education officers from the City and sought details about the reasons for rejection of applications.

A BEO who was part of the meeting told Deccan Herald that they have been instructed to make possible corrections in the applications that the parents came with, if they were found to be genuine.

“In many a cases, applications have been rejected even as the pin codes were genuine. We have been asked consider such applications as the fault is possibly with the system software. However, we have been asked to come back with the applications that have been rejected for yet another meeting on Thursday when a final call would be taken,” said the official.

Meanwhile, a group of parents under the RTE Students and Parents Association  staged a demonstration near the commissioner’s office in the afternoon seeking that their applications be considered. General secretary of the Association, N C Yoganand said that they had come across cases where four different applications submitted by a parent with identical address had been accepted which points to flaws in the system.
