Water released to RTPS from Almatti dam

Water release from the Almatti dam to the Narayanpur dam was started on Sunday.

A total of 1.5 tmc ft of water will be released, at the rate of 9,000 cusecs per day, till Monday, as per instructions from higher officials. The water will be utilised for the Raichur Thermal Power Station, Vinodkumar Gupta, executive engineer (reservoir division) of the Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited said. The release of water will provide supply to the jackwells fed by the Almatti and Narayanpur dams, thereby addressing drinking water concerns to some extent.

The water release will up the levels in the Narayanpur dam, which has reached dead storage. A total of 1.5 tmc ft of water had been released on March 12.

The current level of the Almatti reservoir stood at 507.38 metres on Sunday, against the maximum of 519.6 metres. The present storage is 19.3 tmc ft. Of this, only 1.68 tmc ft is available for use as the rest is dead storage. With 1.5 tmc ft being released from Sunday, the dam has almost hit dead storage.
