Hundreds of illegal flex boards, banners and posters popped up on Brigade Road up to Shoolay Circle on Wednesday, greeting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, other ministers and Congress general secretary in charge of Karnataka Digvijaya Singh.

The occasion was the launch of a drive for 100% literacy in Shanthinagar Assembly constituency on the eve of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar.

An event was organised at the Mota Royal Arcade shopping mall at the intersection of Brigade Road and Residency Road.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Digvijaya Singh and local MLA N A Haris were in attendance.

Defacing the city
The flex boards and banners came up in violation of High Court directions and Lokayukta orders against defacing the city.

When contacted, a senior BBMP official said that no one had made a request to the civic body to put up the exhibits.

“If these flex boards have been put up, they violate our rules,” the BBMP official added.

Pedestrians struggled to walk on the footpath.
