MCC presents Rs 810.50-cr budget for 2016-17

Chairman of Taxation, Appeals and Finance Standing Committee S Balu, on Tuesday, presented a budget of Rs 810.50 crore against an expenditure of Rs 806.24 crore for the year 2016-17.

Balu said, “With property tax and other types of cess forming the major chunk of revenue generated by the local body, Rs 199.98 crore is expected to be collected in the form of property tax and khata transfer, besides Rs 45 crore from water cess, Rs 15 crore from underground drainage cess and an additional Rs 6.45 crore from water service-related sources.”

Under the head of town planning, it is expected to generate a revenue of Rs 12.28 crore through building licence, ground rent, road cutting charges, betterment charges, new water connections, completion report, fine and penalty among other avenues.

From trade licence alone, Rs 10 crore is expected, followed by Rs 4.01 crore in the form of rent collected from commercial complexes, markets and Garuda Mall and Rs 25 lakh from safe food zone that is expected to be established this year.

The State and Central government grants for the next fiscal is expected to be Rs 47 crore for repayment of Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan and other expenditures, Rs 5 crore for tax under State Finance Commission (SFC) grant and Rs 4.50 crore for management of solid waste under the SFC.

Towards the payment of electricity bill of streetlights and drinking water service installations, an estimated amount of Rs 70 crore is expected to be received from the State government. An estimated Rs 77.78 crore is expected towards salary and pension, followed by Rs 28.23 crore under 14th Finance Commission, Rs 5 crore from MP, MLA and MLCs local area development grants, Rs 40 crore from chief minister’s grant under Nagarothana second and third stage works, Rs 30 crore special grants for development of basic infrastructure facilities and Rs 120 crore towards reconstruction of heritage buildings, development of Irwin Road and installation of the statue of the erstwhile ruler of Mysuru, Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, and development of Hardinge Circle.

Under plans to make city slum-free, Rs 2.03 crore is expected from the government, Balu said.
