The Bangalore Metro Rail Transport Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has invited the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) to inspect the underground stretch of the East-West line that runs from Baiyappanahalli to Mysuru Road.

BMRCL General Manager, Finance, U A Vasanth Rao, told Deccan Herald that the BMRCL had sent an application for inspection to the CRS around four to five days ago.

“All the tests have been conducted on the East-West corridor and from our side, we are ready for a safety inspection. That is why we made an application to the Commissioner of Railway Safety. It is for him to give a date and conduct the inspection. We will get to know the inspection date around Monday.”

Asked if there was any pending work on the corridor, Rao said: “Like I said, from our side we are ready. If we were not, we would not file the application for inspection at all. It is now up to the  Commissioner of Railway Safety to examine the entire stretch and the works undertaken and the aspects necessary for sanctioning of permission to start running the East-West corridor complete line. We are waiting for the date now.”

End-to-end connectivity
Once the line is thrown open, people can travel all the way from Mysuru Road to Baiyappanahalli in just one train, which will go underground at the Majestic area and emerge on top at the Cubbon Park station/Minsk Square and then continue on the elevated stretch.

The east-west line runs underground from Majestic to Cubbon Park via the Central College, Vidhana Soudha and Cubbon park itself. From there on it moves to the elevated section. The East-West corridor covers a distance of 18.1 kilometres and has 17 stations. The underground distance between the cricket stadium and Magadi Road is about 4.8 km.
