Last Updated 16 March 2016, 20:46 IST

An ACP (traffic) was assaulted by a techie near Doddanekundi junction on the Outer Ring Road on Wednesday.

At around 11.30 pm, Sachin P Ghorpade, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) East, was on his night rounds. He received information that there was congestion on part of the ORR following rains. He went to the spot with traffic constables.

The policemen noticed Praneeth, a resident of Kadugodi and a software engineer at Manyata Tech Park, driving in the wrong direction. They stopped him and asked him to drive in the right direction, as he was blocking the way of vehicles in the opposite direction.

Praneeth started arguing with the constables and abused them. The ACP asked him to obey traffic rules. Praneeth manhandled the ACP, hit him and tore his uniform. The Mahadevapura police arrived at the spot, detained Praneeth and seized his car.

Praneeth told the police he was in a hurry to see his wife, who had delivered a baby. But the ACP lodged a complaint at the Mahadevapura police station and Praneeth was arrested.

A senior police officer said, “Praneeth should have told the officials that he was in a hurry due to a medical emergency. They would have helped him. But, he abused a policeman on duty.”
