SJCE wins TCS TechBytes State finals

M Samarth and Shrinidhi Kulkarni, students of Shri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), Mysuru, emerged winners in the state finals of the seventh edition of the Engineering IT Quiz – TCS TechBytes, at Bengaluru, on Tuesday.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the Board for IT Education Standards (BITES), in association with IT industries, conducted the quiz. Its objective is to enhance IT awareness among students and enable them to compete in the fast-paced technology intensive industry.

The quiz received huge response, with engineering colleges across Karnataka participating in large numbers in the regional finals held at Kalaburagi, Dharwad, Tumakuru, Mysuru, Bengaluru and Mangaluru recently.

The six regional finalists, who qualified for the state finals, held at SJB Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, were: Samarth and Shrinidhi Kulkarni of SJCE, Mysuru; Kaushik S Kalmadi and Swastik Udupa of NITK, Surathkal; Sameer Desai and Rajnarayan Dutta, NITTE Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bengaluru; Prasanna Joshi and Hrishikesh Malagi, Basweshwara Engineering College, Bagalkot; Ankit Pursottam Bagaria and Sagar Ramnath Jayswal, Bheemana Khandre College of Engineering, Kalaburagi; and Abhishek Krishna and Anthony Paul, RV College of Engineering, Bengaluru.

The quiz was based on the theme of ‘Digital Marketing And Its Significance In Present Times’. The animation-based quiz format had five rounds — Landing Page, Search Engine Optimisation, Higher Per Hit, Going Viral and Net Worth. Each round tested the students’ spectrum of knowledge in the IT sphere. Abhishek Krishna and Anthony Paul of RV College of Engineering, Bengaluru, emerged runners-up.

The state winners received a trophy, TCS educational scholarship of Rs 75,000, Apple iPad mini, Fastrack gift cards, bluetooth speakers, headphones, pen drives and bags.

The runners-up received an educational scholarship of Rs 40,000, Samsung Galaxy tabs, Fastrack gift cards, bluetooth speakers, headphones, pen drives and bags. Teams that came 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th also received cellphones, Fastrack gift cards, bluetooth speakers, headphones, pen drives and bags.

The prizes were distributed by Nagaraj Ijari, vice-president and head of TCS Bangalore Operations and Suresh Ramaswamy Reddy, executive director of BITES.
