GP shuts down disputed commercial complex

The disputed commercial complex at Rani Chennamma Circle in Kushalnagar was sealed by the police and handed over to the gram panchayat on Sunday.

The complex was sealed in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner Sathish Kumar, Executive Officer Chandrashekhar and Panchayat Development Officer Kushalappa.

As per the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Meer Anees Ahmmed and following orders passed by the Zilla Panchayat CEO, Charulatha Somal, six out of seven stalls at the commercial complex, which were operating without license, were seized.

A clinic at the complex has been issued a ‘No Objection Certificate’ by the earlier PDO. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sathish Kumar said that the issue will be discussed in the panchayat meeting and steps will be taken to close the clinic.

While sealing the shops, contractor S N Raghu, his supporters and two advocates argued that the panchayat cannot initiate action as Sunday was a holiday. But, the police officials followed the deputy commissioner’s orders.

Virajpet DySP Kumar Chandra, Kushalnagar DySP Kumar, Gonikoppa CPI Raju, Virajpet CPI Shanthamallappa, Suntikoppa Sub-inspector Harivardhan, Somvarpet Sub-inspector Nandish Kumar, Manjaiah, Shanivarasanthe Sub-inspector S S Ravikiran and 250 police personnel, including the platoons of KSRP, DAR and Gas Vajra, were present to tighten the security.

Taluk panchayat member B S Ananth Kumar said sincere fights which were held for nine months towards seizing the disputed commercial complex, has paid the results, owing to support by the District In-charge Minister, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Block Congress president K M Lokesh and others.

Gram panchayat president Muhammed Gouse, vice-president Geetha, members Sardar, Sowbhagyalakshmi, Rajani, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists, members of Manava Hakku Bhrastachara Virodhi Sangha, Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike, DSS and the public had protested against the illegal shops.
