The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) has directed the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) to register cases of cheating and forgery against the BBMP and KRIDL engineers and the contractor in connection with the fake bill scam in Chickpet and Chamarajpet.

Based on a complaint lodged by former corporator N R Ramesh, the court directed the BMTF to register cases against Executive Engineer of Chamarajpet division Tanveer Ahmed, Assistant Executive Engineer D Ranganath, Assistant Engineers Narayan, Prasanna Kumar, Narasimhaiah, KRIDL Executive Engineer Umesh and contractor R Chandrappa under various sections the IPC including forgery, cheating and tampering with evidence. The court has directed the BMTF to submit a detailed report on the scam by July 4, 2016.

The case relates to the 26 roads in Chickpet and Chamarajpet around Avenue Road, which are in a bad shape even today. Taking advantage of it, the engineers sought grants to improve them and subsequently, job codes were created to take up the work. Instead of completing the work, engineers colluded with the contractor and prepared fake bills. When a former corporator of the ward learnt about it, he complained to the BBMP commissioner G Kumar Naik, who personally visited those roads and ordered an inquiry by the Technical Vigilance Cell under Commissioner (TVCC).

The TVCC found substance in the complaint and recommended action against the engineers and the contractor. Based on the report, the three BBMP engineers were suspended while action was recommended for the KRIDL engineer.
