Peace and coffee is what you want your winter to end with

It’s hard to say whether Boheme at Vasant Vihar is a coffee or dining space. The cafe seems to be have been located in the middle of a residential colony to enthuse some hustle bustle.

But the place has achieved what many mainstream coffee shops haven’t — giving its customers a place to be in peace and do their own thing. The seating arrangement and spacing on the first floor is quite homely and eclectic with its cutesy sofa sets giving an impression of a large serene drawing room. In the day time the cafe needs no lighting, its large windows let in enough warmth and sunlight to fill the room. The balcony is a place for people to catch up with their official and school work.

The day Metrolife visited, some students were making paintings and sketches for an event, filling the air with cheer. The place is like your next door cafe, but with countenance.

The second floor is the open air terrace, which is its main bohemian settlement with rustic chairs and tables casually placed. The bamboo railings add a texture of an easy going suburban community living. People can organise their own barbeque and get the feel of living in a commune, with drinks and coffee on the sides.

The menu is a curious mix of Mediterranean and Malabari foods, which is served with great presentation skills. One cannot ignore the attention given to each item that is plated. The Slow Mushroom, is a yellow dish with mushrooms marinated in tasty yoghurt, green chillies and coriander.

The dish is healthy and enough for one, and a good  to opt for instead of a sandwich like dish. Boheme is more than an eating place, it gives you time to catch up and also laze around on their heavily cushioned sofas. If you feel hungry once again after some catching up, you can order the Beetle Leaf Wrap (chicken wrapped in beetle leaf served with tzatziki dip) -- a chef special. The dip given on the side is great for a last lick, the after taste is something you’ll miss.

Their specialities are their Kerala and Malabari dishes like the Fisherman’s Dream, which is a tangy masala curry, served with steamed rice or Malabar parantha and the Kokum Curry, again a Malabar curry served with upma or parantha.

The drinks menu is not presented to boast of but has a fascinating mixture of exclusive beers, wine and whiskies. The cocktails are a must try, the Bohemian Whisky Sour being one of them.
