JOIN USA self-proclaimed Delhi cleric was arrested from Uttar Pradesh by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on charges of delivering “provocative and inflammatory speeches” and instigating youths to join Islamic State.
Abdus Sami Qasmi, a resident of Seelampur in north-east Delhi, was picked up from Hardoi district in UP on Friday. He was presented before a Delhi court and after in-camera proceedings, sent to 10-day police custody following NIA’s claims that his custodial interrogation was necessary for unearthing the entire conspiracy.
This is the 20th arrest in recent days as part of crackdown against spread of IS. The arrest was made with the active assistance of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police.
NIA officials said he has been arrested in the case of ongoing investigation into the conspiracy to form a terror organisation and to launch terror attacks in the country.
“Sami has been delivering provocative and inflammatory speeches in support of ‘Caliphate’. He has launched a few websites wherein his speeches have been uploaded,” the NIA said in a statement.
