PIL accuses Hema Malini of forgery, cheating

Last Updated 04 February 2016, 19:17 IST
Amid mounting allegations of land-grabbing and destruction of mangroves, a PIL has been filed in the Bombay High Court seeking directions to Mumbai Police commissioner to file a case of cheating and forgery against actor-politician Hema Malini and Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse.

The Public-Interest Litigation has been filed by veteran journalist-turned-activist Ketan Tirodkar and is expected to be heard in due course of time. Among the major grounds cited in the Public-Interest Litigation (PIL) are the judgments of the Supreme Court and high courts which had stressed that public property cannot be allotted without issuing advertisements and inviting applications from needy people.

Plot allotment
The plot has been allotted to Natyavihar Kala Kendra Charity Trust founded by Hema, the Mathura BJP MP.  She was allotted a plot at Versova village, bearing survey no 161, adjoining the Versova Creek, being plot no 1 measuring 1741.89 sq mt in the Andheri area for which the possession was handed out on April 4, 1997. However, it fell under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and hence she repeatedly approached governments seeking another plot.

On December 23, 2015, the government allotted 2,000 sq mt from a total land admeasuring 29360.50 sq mt reserved for purpose of gardens and situated in survey no 109 A/1, CTS no 3, Ambivili village at Andheri.
