Squads formed to enforce ban on pvt buses in Bengaluru

The Transport department has formed joint squads comprising staff from police department and the BMTC to stop the operation of contract carriage buses, all-India tourist omni buses and all kinds of goods vehicles in BBMP limits from Feb 1 to 5 to decongest roads during the Invest Karnataka meet.

The Transport department on Sunday announced that 25 joint squads have been formed to prevent private buses and good vehicles from operating in the BBMP limits between 7 am and 10 pm from Feb 1 to 5.

The 25 squads will be stationed at six locations on the outskirts of the City from where the entry of private

buses and goods vehicles into the BBMP areas will be banned.

The locations are Bangalore International Exhibition Centre grounds on Tumakuru Road; NICE Road junction on Mysuru Road; Attibele on Hosur Road; NICE Road junction on Kanakapura Road; Bagalur Cross on Hebbal Road (Ballari Road) and Toll Plaza near KR Puram on Old Madras Road.

In addition to the 25 squads, 19 mobile squads have been formed to monitor the movement of these vehicles. The Transport department, in a media release said, people have to take note of the vehicle ban and choose their convenient mode of transport during this period. To ensure that not much inconvenience is caused to private bus passengers, BMTC buses will ferry passengers to and from the six locations.

The BMTC will run buses to the pick up points and feeder services will ferry back passengers to different Traffic and Transit Management Centres (TTMCs) and to Kempegowda Bus Station.
