Last Updated 27 January 2016, 19:48 IST

Underworld don ‘Bannanje’ Raja will be brought to the City by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) and produced before a court here in connection with the sensational Seena murder case of 1997 in Banashanakri police station limits.

“A team of policemen from the CCB left for Belagavi’s Hindalga jail on Wednesday morning to bring Raja to the City. He was one of the accused in the murder of Srinivas alias Seena, the car driver of ‘Agni’ Sridhar, a former underworld operator and now a journalist, near Kadirenahalli Cross on July 1, 1997,” said a senior police officer.

The police will seek his custody and interrogate him in connection with the case. Raja and his gang had planned to eliminate Sridhar, but on that fateful day, Sridhar was not present in the car. Raja and his associates trailed Sridhar’s car and as they reached Kadirenahalli Cross, they opened fire and in a case of mistaken identity, driver Srinivas was shot in the head. He died on the spot.

After a few days, Arif, who was driving Raja’s car, was arrested by the police. Arif revealed that Raja was the one who opened fire at Sridhar’s car, added the officer. Raja was booked for extortion and carrying illegal arms.
