JD(S) asks for all-party meeting

Last Updated 25 January 2016, 18:56 IST

JD(S) State General Secretary H H Devaraj has urged the District In-charge Minister G Parameshwara to convene an all-party leaders’ meeting to discuss the burning issues in the district.

The minister should work towards integrated development of the district, the secretary added. Addressing reporters, Devaraj said that the previous District In-charge Minister K Abhayachandra Jain had failed to solve the problems faced by the district.

“The lift irrigation project remains neglected in the district. The work on the Malalooru lift irrigation project has remained incomplete even after three decades. The work on Karagada drinking water project has remained incomplete,” he listed out.

He said that encroachment of government land is one of the burning issues in the district. “The small and marginal farmers have encroached upon government land to find means of livelihood. The government should come to the rescue of small land-holders,” he demanded, adding, “The minister should order a probe into the poor quality of work on Market road, MG Road initiated during the BJP-led government’s tenure.”

He said that the names of the party candidates for the Zilla Panchayat and taluk panchayat elections will be announced within two days.
