Police have arrested a man related to a murder in Shahbad Dairy of Outer Delhi where a 22-year-old man was shot dead with country-made pistol on January 9. According to police, the accused shot the victim in a state of intoxication.

Vinod Chauhan was shot dead when he went out of his house for a stroll after having his dinner. He had barely walked 100 metres away from his house when some unidentified people shot him dead.

People nearby alleged that they only heard the gunshot, but nobody claimed to have seen the culprits, said police.

Chauhan was married one month back only, which was his second marriage.
Chauhan had married his first wife four years ago, however, she ran away from Chauhan’s house along with her lover. Chauhan has a daughter from her first wife who was living with him.

As there were no eyewitnesses, police used their sources to dig out clues about the case. A police team visited the spot and established the sequence of events leading to the crime.

On the basis of secret information and interrogation of neighbors and friends of the victim, Arif, 20, a resident of Shahbad Dairy was arrested on January 11 within 48 hours of the murder.

A school dropout, Arif was working as a part-time driver, police said.
On interrogation, Arif confessed that he had shot Vinod in an intoxicated state and the desi katta used in the commission of the crime has been recovered from him.

Further investigation is on in the case. Police are questioning Arif about the motive of the murder and whether other people are also involved.
