A 21-year-old youth was killed and his two friends injured in a road accident on the Yeshwantpur flyover in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Akshay Nayari, a native of Udupi, and the injured are Atif Khan and Muddukrishna, both from Haveri.

Nayari and Krishna were staying in a paying guest accommodation in Rajajinagar. Nayari was supplying books to private colleges and Krishna is a dry fruit merchant at the RMC Yard. All the three were earlier studying together in a college in Haveri. While Khan continued his studies, Nayari and Krishna shifted to Bengaluru and started their own business.

Police said Khan had come down to the City a few days ago to meet his friends. After dinner, the trio was returning home on two bikes. Khan was riding the bike and Nayari the pillion. Muddukrishna was riding another bike.

While travelling on the Yeshwantpur flyover around 12.45 am, Khan tried to overtake Krishna and rammed his bike into the latter’s. Since both were riding at high speed, the trio fell down. Nayari was tossed in the air and his head hit the flyover’s parapet, while Khan and Krishna suffered severe injuries.

The public rushed the trio to a hospital. Nayari succumbed to his injuries and Khan and Krishna are under observation at a hospital. Both the riders were not wearing helmet which resulted in head injuries. Nayari’s body has been sent to Udupi after post-mortem. The Yeshwantpur traffic police have registered a case.
