Sofiya Maudany alias Sofiya Bibi, wife of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Naseer Maudany, has turned hostile in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts case trial.

During her deposition before the trial court here on Thursday, Sofiya denied to have any information about her husband’s visit to Hostota village in Coorg.

The prosecution case was that Maudany had first met prime accused Thadiyantavide Nazeer (T Nazeer) at a rented house in Ernakulam. According to prosecution, Sofiya Maudany had signed on the agreement with one Jose Verghese, who is the General Power of Attorney holder in favour of Rani Verghese, owner of the house.

The prosecution case was that Maudany had used three mobile phones which were in the name of Sofiya. During the cross examination, Sofiya, not only refused to identify her signature on the agreement, but also disowned the mobile numbers.

Though prosecution produced the agreement documents and documents pertaining to the purchase of sim cards, Sofiya stated that it was not her signature on the documents.  The house at 33/1630 A-2 Maliyal, Souhardh Nagar on Harita Road in Venalkar at Ernakulam district was allegedly used for the conspiracy, according to the police. Earlier, the GPA holder, Jose Verghese, had also turned hostile.

Meanwhile, the defense counsel on Thursday said that Maudany has been trapped by rival political parties in the 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts case. The counsel stated that the Congress, the BJP and the IUML (Indian Union Muslim League), had hatched a conspiracy against Maudany, since his party, PDP, was supporting LDF in Kerala.
