Child prodigies shine

The State is home to wonderkids who are making a mark in various fields with their innate talent.  Bhumika D S, a student of Sri Lakshmi Kalakshetra in Ballari, is another rare talent who has excelled in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and folk dances. She is the first child from Ballari district to be honoured with the State award sponsored by the Women and Child Welfare Department, for her extraordinary achievements in dance.

She will be honoured by Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala at the Jawahar Bal Bhavan on November 14. Bhumika, a Class 9 student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, is competing in the International Dance Fest that is to be held at Bangkok in December 2015. She participated in a Guinness World Record event held at Hyderabad in December 2014. She is also an academic achiever and is the winner of the English Olympiad 2012.

Five-year-old Shrinika Purohit keeps everyone spellbound with her elegant Odissi dance moves. A regular at dance festivals across India, Shrinika Purohit's dance journey started when she was just three years old. Purohit, a student of Vibgyor School, is also good at academics. She has qualified for the National MaRRS Pre School Bee Championship. She shared  her love for dance and expressed her willingness to learn more about the art form. 

Fourteen-year-old Reetish Padhi a sporting talent to watch out for. Padhi, who has been playing chess since Class I, is a national-level chess player who has represented Karnataka at various tournaments and competitions. Recently, he emerged as the runner-up in the National Chess Tournament at Jammu. He also bagged the first position in the Roto Lawyers cup in the under-15 category. Studying in Class 9 at Greenwood High, Bengaluru, Padhi looks up to late Grandmaster Mikhail Tal and aims to be like him one day.

His mother, Leeba Padhi, said that her son is good at academics and has bagged prizes in the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) and National Science Olympiad (NSO) exams.
