BJP, VHP, RSS nexus against 'love jihad'

Last Updated 05 October 2015, 19:56 IST

A sting operation made public on Monday by investigative portals — Cobrapost and Gulail — said that Hindutva groups use “violence, intimidation and emotional blackmail” to break up Hindu-Muslim married couples.

The claim came after secret camera shootings conducted by these portals in Delhi, Muzaffarnagar and Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), Mangaluru (Karnataka), Ernakulam and Kasaragod (Kerala).

The sting titled “Operation Juliet: Busting the Bogey of Love Jihad”, points fingers at a number of BJP, VHP and fringe Hindutva leaders, including Union Minister of State Sanjeev Balyan, controversial BJP MLA Sangeet Som (UP) and VHP Mangaluru District president Jagdish Shenava.

The sting claims that Hindutva groups were “forcibly rescuing” girls who are “victims of love jihad”, a termed coined by them to refer to the marriage between Muslim men and Hindu women. They also “misused public support for mounting pressure” on police and local administration to nullify such marriages.

The sting purportedly shows Shenava claiming that he was involved in “slapping false charges” on Muslim men and besides admitting using mobs to build pressure on police and to disrupt law and order.

“He admits to having been involved in several cases of love jihad. Recounting one particular case, he confesses that he got a Muslim man arrested on charges of kidnapping and talked the woman out of her decision to be with a Muslim man after ‘counselling’,” the portals said.

And if the girls “don’t understand, we use force,” Shenava was quoted as saying.
BJP MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik also said they have infiltrated the police force.

‘Drugs to girls’
According to the portals, the Hindu Helpline in Kerala has taken to administering drugs to girls who have been “rescued”. Cijith, an activist with the helpline, is purportedly heard saying that these drugs cause temporary amnesia and are used to bring the girl under control.
