An online petition ‘Clean Up Bellandur Lake’ started by a City-based software engineer on Change.org has gathered close to 15,000 supporters for the cause.

Sanchita Jha, a techie who lives in Bellandur has also created a Facebook page which gained over 1,600 members within 24 hours from Sunday.

Jha told Deccan Herald that the froth in the lake had been increasing rapidly.  “If the froth falls on the skin, it causes itching. Many runners who were using this route, stopped going this way. I too used to use this route to office. But I do not go through this road any more,” she said.

She said her mails to the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and other concerned officials had not been responded to.

“Initially, people thought the froth to be detergent. I too did not know much about it until I read about it. It has increased manifold over the past few months” she added. Jha and the local residents are also planning a campaign to bring the situation to the notice of the officials. The petition is available on change.org/bellandurlake.
