JOIN USA replica of historical Hampi stone chariot, Goddess Chamundeshwari, Nandi, Mahishasura and musical instruments, all in two lakhs of flowers will beckon visitors during the Dasara flower show at Kuppanna Park, here, this year.
The stone chariot that dates back to the erstwhile Vijayanagara kingdom will be recreated in the size of 16 ft x 12 ft x 26 ft using 1.50 lakh roses, while the presiding deity Chamundeshwari, Nandi the monolithic stone idol at Chamundi Hill and demon Mahishasura, and musical instruments will be recreated using 45,000 roses.
Addressing the media on Thursday, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer P A Gopal, also deputy special officer for flower show, said, the flower show will be held for a period of 12 days from October 14 to 25 under the aegis of the district Horticulture Society.
“While the aforementioned annual attractions, that form the USP of the show, have been conceptualised as part of the set precedent, for the benefit of flower lovers, as many as 60,000 flower pots, adorning flowers of types, brought from Ooty among other places will be on display. Seeds of various flowering plants have been sown in advance. Besides, 15,000 vegetable and flower pots have been planned by private parties with 2,500 pots dedicated for vegetables to promote kitchen and terrace gardening,” added Senior Assistant Director for Horticulture C R Krishna Kumar.
Vegetable pots and flowers will be displayed by participants like BEML, Brakes India, Palace Board, Triton Valves, J K Tyres, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), Indian Ayurvedic College, JSS Ayurveda College, etc. While replicas of musical instruments and mythological characters are made in association with Dairy Day ice-cream makers, the stone chariot is the brain child of the society.
Gopal said, the roses used for the stone chariot will be changed with an equal number of roses after five days of the opening of the show. Competitions have been organised for private parties and women in categories of gardening, arrangement of decorative flowers, preparation of fruit salad among others.
Replica of peacock
A replica of peacock, the national bird of our country, will be recreated with capsicum in different colours. It will greet the visitors at the entrance, Gopal said.
As many as 30 stalls, including those selling horticultural and agricultural products and eateries will be set up during the show. The entry fee remains the same at Rs 20 for adults and Rs 10 for children, said Gopal.
