PM must sack RBI guv Rajan, says Swamy

Last Updated 28 September 2015, 20:13 IST

With barely a few hours left for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to announce the next monetary policy, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has sought to create a furore by saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi must instruct Governor Raghuram Rajan to either cut rates or be ready to be sacked.

“PM must make clear to RBI Gov: Rate cut now or Rajan cut right away,” Swamy said in a hard-hitting tweet early on Monday.

This is not the first time that Swamy has attacked Rajan. In June last year, soon after the Modi government came to power, Swami had written to the prime minister saying it would send a wrong message about the NDA government if persons like Rajan continued to be the governor of the RBI on the grounds that he was qualified.
