A cab driver was found murdered in Avalahalli in Bengaluru Rural district on Monday. The victim was identified as Krishna Murthy, 38, a resident of Jakkenahalli in Gauribidnur taluk of Chikkaballapur district.

According to the police, a few local residents spotted a body near a banyan tree at Avalahalli and informed the police.

“We shifted the body to a hospital for post-mortem. Murthy had died due to massive injuries he suffered on his head and legs. Hence, the police suspected he should have hacked to death,” police said.

The police have taken Murthy’s relative Vinod Kumar into custody for interrogation as they suspected his involvement in the murder.

Murthy was married to Shashikala of Avalahalli a few years ago.

The couple have a nine-year-old daughter. Shashikala parted ways with her husband recently and moved to her parental house. Murthy would often visit his in-laws’ house in an inebriated state and start fight with his wife, said the police.

Murthy met his wife three days ago and started a fight. He broke open doors and windowpanes under the influence of alcohol late on Sunday night. Hours later, he was found murdered, added the police.
