JD(S) man claims threat to life from Roshan Baig

Syed Mujahid, who unsuccessfully contested the recent Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike elections on a JD (S) ticket from the Bharatinagar ward, has claimed threat to his life from Minister for Information and Haj R Roshan Baig.

Addressing the media in the City on Saturday, Mujahid said the Bhuvaneshwarinagar police had also refused to register a complaint against those who attempted to assault him. He said the four men who tried to kill him were supported by Ruman Baig, son of Roshan Baig.

Mujahid recalled that the tussle between him and Ruman began when he put up a banner in front of a marriage hall.

“I have taken the Mukthar Manzil marriage hall on lease. Recently, I had put up a banner there and was out of town for a few days. On my return, I found the banner replaced with a Congress banner,” he said.

Mujahid then approached the Bhuvaneshwarinagar police and sought protection. “I requested that two constables accompany me earlier this month and began my day’s routine. As we reached the marriage hall, four men who arrived by an autorickshaw tried to assault me. However, as two police constables were with me, they tried to flee. Following this, when I approached the police to file an FIR, I was told that it was a non-cognisable offence,” he said.

Mujahid has also claimed that his attackers were let off without charges after Ruman Baig called the police.

“An investigation has to be ordered into the matter. I am sure the police are capable of tracing the real culprits. It is just that their hands are tied,” he added.
