A 28-year-old woman killed her two-year-old daughter and then committed suicide at their house in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden Monday.

The woman was apparently depressed due to her daughter’s mental disorder. A suicide note has been recovered, police said Tuesday.

The bodies of Vidhi Chaddha and her daughter Gunoor were found when her husband Pradeep returned home from office Monday. Pradeep works with a multinational company in Ghaziabad. The couple married in 2006.

“We have been told that Gunoor was mentally challenged and was also suffering from asthma. Vidhi was under depression as there was no improvement in Gunoor’s condition despite treatment at private hospitals,” a police officer said.

Pradeep had left home for office at 9 am Monday. When he returned, the main door of the house was found locked from inside. Pradeep rang the doorbell several times, but did not get any response. “Vidhi’s mobile phone was also found switched off,” the officer added.

Pradeep then peeped into the house through a window and saw Vidhi hanging from the ceiling of the drawing room. He raised an alarm and broke open the door. “Gunoor’s body was found on the bed,” the officer said.

Hearing the commotion, neighbours gathered outside the house and made a call to the police control room.

During investigation, police recovered a suicide note from the house. “I am depressed due to the suffering of my daughter. I am tired of getting her treated,” read the note written in Hindi. Pradeep also confirmed that Vidhi was worried over Gunoor’s condition.
The bodies were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital after a crime and forensic team inspected the house. They were handed over to Pradeep after a post-mortem Tuesday. “Initial post-mortem revealed that Gunoor was strangled,” the officer added.
A team from Rajouri Garden police station is investigating the matter.
