Six-yr-old dies of dengue after hospitals reject him

A six-year-old child died of dengue on Sunday after reportedly being denied timely treatment at Central-government-run Safdarjung Hospital and refused beds at private hospitals.

Aman was finally admitted to Holy Family Hospital, where he died on Sunday evening.
“Aman died of dengue shock syndrome, coagulopathy and low platelet count,” said Dr S Warsi, medical superintendent at Holy Family Hospital.

Another death was reported from the state-run LNJP Hospital, where a 29-year-old woman from north-west Delhi succumbed to dengue on Monday evening. The woman was brought in a critical condition and died within minutes, said LNJP Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Yogesh Sarin.

Delhi is seeing the worst dengue outbreak in five years, with official figures crossing 1,800 and the toll at least 13 this season. Last year, 995 dengue cases were reported.
Union Health Minister J P Nadda directed hospitals not to deny treatment to any patient suffering from fever or suspected dengue.

The Delhi government also saw a flurry of activities, with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Health Minister Satyendra Jain and AAP legislators inspecting state-run hospitals to review the situation.

Kejriwal said his government was planning a special Assembly session on dengue and to enact a law under which private hospitals refusing admission in emergency cases could be penalised.
