An IT professional was charred to death in his car which caught fire when a truck toppled over it in south Delhi in the small hours of Wednesday.

The truck also crushed another car and a motorcycle, injuring three persons including a woman, police said.

Anish Jadhav, 25, who lived in Gurgaon and worked with Nikon, was a native of Belgaum in Karnataka.

Police said the incident was reported around 2.30 am on Wednesday at the traffic signal on Rao Tula Ram Marg, just below the Moti Bagh flyover.

Jadhav was driving from the South Campus area to Gurgaon when the truck carrying around 30 tonnes of cement overturned on his car and the other vehicles.

The truck was going towards Munirka from Gurgaon. After crossing the traffic signal below the flyover, it collided with another car travelling towards South Campus. It then went up the road divider and overturned on the other side of the road.

The front portion of the truck crushed one car, dragging it along for several metres. The container, much heavier in comparison, settled on Jadhav’s car that had briefly halted to allow the container-truck to pass, police said.

Police said that there was a possibility that one or both the vehicles were speeding as the traffic signal was on the blinker mode at that time.

Jadhav’s car caught fire as the truck fell on it. The car was badly mangled, and he had no way to get out.

After receiving the information, police and a fire team rushed to the spot and rescued people trapped in the other car.

They were rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre where their condition is stable, said police.
Metal cutters were needed to remove Jadhav’s charred body from his car, police said. The truck driver fled from the spot after the accident, they added.

The victim’s father, Kishore Jadhav, is a colonel with the Army and lives in Pune. Anish had joined Nikon on June 22 in the sales and technical support department.
