College clerk held in RGUHS exam scam

A second division assistant (SDA) of a medical college was arrested in connection with the postgraduate examination scam in Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

The suspect was identified as Gangadhar Hanumarao, 45, a resident of Bangara village of Aland taluk in Kalaburagi district. He is an SDA with HKE Homoeopathy College on Sedam Road in Kalaburagi, said the police.

The police acted on certain evidence and arrested him from his college. During his interrogation by the police, Gangadhar was found to have helped a PG student of Al-Ameen College.

Case handed over to CCB

A case was registered with the Tilak Nagar police in Bengaluru after the scam came to light in June 2014. The case was handed over to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police for a probe.

The CCB police arrested the kingpin of the scam, Bhagirath Singh, RGUHS staff Devendra Gowda Patil, Dr Shankar Gowda and Jayamade Gowda on August 8. Based on the disclosures of Bhagirath, the police had seized Rs 20.5 lakh deposited in his account on August 11. 

The police had also seized a car, 10 blank answer scripts and a sewing machine, added the police.
