'I don't have the guts to sing'

Last Updated 31 August 2015, 21:57 IST

She made her Bollywood debut with Anurag Basu’s much acclaimed Barfi! and with experience in various film industries including down South, Ileana D’ Cruz can clearly make out the differences. She says, “Each film is a different experience. It does not matter whether it is Tollywood (Telegu film industry) or Bollywood (Hindi film industry) or Kollywood (Tamil film industry). Each person you work alongside is different. In Telegu films, you start early. If it is a 6 am shoot, I am at the set at 5.30 am. So, it is super sharp. They are very punctual. In Bollywood, they are more laid back. In fact in Tollywood, they make films in four months because of which they have high number of films releasing every year.”

The 27-year-old actor is all smiles when asked about her contemporaries trying out different genres. She tells Metrolife, “Singing has always been a dream. I don’t know. I don’t have the guts to sing right now. So, if I get the guts to train a little, I might get in. There is nothing in the pipeline as of now. I am sticking to acting as
of now.”

D’Cruz who recently made headlines when she appeared at Telegu actor Chiranjeevi’s 60th birthday celebrations in a Nikhil and Shantanu gown shares, “Shantanu and Nikhil’s creation was so beautiful. They, in fact, gave it to me saying that you carry it off so beautifully. So, I got to wear it again. It is a stunning outfit. Definitely, one of my favourites.”

As a chief guest at the launch of online shopping portal, Royzez.com at The Lalit in the Capital recently, D’Cruz reveals, “I love online shopping and I loved the entire package that they are providing to the customers. I am going to start shopping with them very soon.” She adds, “I always over-splurge. But the beauty is that I get a lot of products for a decent price. Though, the final bill is a big bill but I would rather call it spending-it-wise. I spend good amount of money on online shopping. What is nice about online shopping is that you can also return the products. I think, we are living in a very comfortable world now.”

Purchasing a variety of home-decor online, unlike many other stars, she adds, “I find unusual, quirky stuff online like home-decor. Sometimes, I find different kinds of lamps. I like looking for something different, something that you would not find on the street. It is mainly home-stuff that I pick up online. I am different that way.”

She quashes all rumours of her link up with Australian photographer, Andrew Kneebone. “There are lot of rumours going around. There was a rumour, three years ago that I was married to a businessman in London. So, I am not going to comment on it because I have never been married before. Let me just make it clear. That is all I would like to state. I have been private about my personal life and I want to keep it that way. Rumours are something you really should not go by,” she says.

The actor who is not part of the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Fan says, “I am not doing Fan. In another week or so, I have an announcement to make which is interesting. I am in talks with somebody right now. Till something is confirmed, and I sign the contract, I can’t put it out.” She laughs at the mention of her being called a ‘fashion icon’ with a surprised expression and states that it is more to do with personality.

“Stick to your own style. Each one of us has got a different style which works for them, works for their personality. So, if you are wearing something you are comfortable in, that is what matters. People need to experiment a bit, but stick to what you are comfortable in,” she adds with a smile.
