BMTC, KSRTC buses may stay off roads tomorrow

Bus services across the State are likely to be affected on September 2 as BMTC and KSRTC employees are all set to join the nationwide stir against the Road Safety Bill, 2014.

The nationwide protest has received wide support from various trade unions and workers’ federations. The autorickshaw drivers’ associations are yet to take a call on participating in the strike.

Some of the other demands include, control of price rise, minimum wage of Rs 15,000 per month, no violation of labour laws, no contract labour and outsourcing and pension for all. While BMTC and KSRTC officials are saying that they are making last ditch efforts to convince the staff, it seems imminent that the public will have to face commuting troubles on Wednesday.

KSRTC managing director Rajender Kumar Kataria said: “We have appealed to the union leaders not to proceed with the strike. As far as their issues are concerned, we have addressed the same at various platforms, including the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. We are with the staff on these issues but we do not support strike causing inconvenience to the public.”
