Legislator B B Ningaiah has said that the government has released Rs 60 lakh for repair of roads in the taluk that have been damaged following heavy rain.

“Heavy rain in the month of June has taken a heavy toll on the roads of the taluk. Roads have developed huge potholes in the Banakal Gonibeedu, Kalasa and Balooru hoblis. The work on filling of potholes should commence after the rains recede,” said the MLA, chairing a meeting in town on Saturday.

“An amount of Rs 36 lakh has been released for drinking water projects that have been damaged due to rain. The sources of drinking water too will be repaired,” he said, adding that the deputy commissioner will tour the taluk next week to assess the rain-related damage. The legislator also called upon all elected representatives to participate in the survey work on the damaged facilities.

Mudigere Taluk Panchayat president Anajooru Subraya Gowda said that agriculture crops have been damaged at Taruve, Oorubage, Hanthooru, Kalasa, Javali, and Balooru gram panchayat limits. “Owing to cold weather, coffee beans have started withering in the taluk. There is need to provide suitable compensation for farmers who are in distress in the taluk.” MLC Gayathri Shanthe Gowda said that the funds should be utilised affectively.
