Manappa Nashi (52), a farmer from Khanapur in Yadgir taluk, committed suicide by consuming poison at his farm on Monday night.
It is learnt, the victim had borrowed Rs 5.6 lakh from various sources including a nationalised bank. Also he was upset as green gram cultivated on three-acre dryland had dried up owing to below par monsoon.
A mulberry grower from Chikkirugambi under Hosahudya gram panchayat limits of Chikkaballapur district ended his life by consuming poison at his house in the early hours of Tuesday. Manjunath (35), who used to cultivate a 10-acre land taken on a lease from one of his relatives, had suffered crop loss in the past three years. He had taken farm loan of Rs 1 lakh from Pragati Krishna Gramin Bank. He is survived by wife Gayatri and three children.
Shekaraiah (35), a resident of Honakere in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk of Tumakuru district, ended his life by hanging himself from a tree at his farm on Tuesday. It is said, the victim had slipped into depression due to crop failure, mounting debts and family disputes. Handanakere police have registered a case.
