Warm response to dist-level marathon

The district-level C G Jayakumar Memorial Road marathon was organised in Chikkamagaluru on Sunday.

The marathon, jointly organised by Gangadhar Nayak family, Fort Suggikal Road and District Amateur Atheltic Association, was flagged off by MLA C T Ravi.

Keerthiraj, Gautham, Sushanth, Dhanya and Archana bagged first prize in men’s, High School boys and girls categories respectively.

The marathon for the men’s category started from Golf Club, for High school boys category from Mountain View, Girls category from DIET, Higher Primary boys from KEB Circle and primary girls from Hanumathappa Circle. The marathon concluded at Azad Circle.

Six participants in each category were declared as winners and were awarded cash prizes ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 300, medals and certificates. Three schools in each category were also awarded. The details of winners in each category are as follows:

Men’s category: Keerthiraj Lingadahalli, Shashikiran Sangameshwarapete, Umesh Chikkamagaluru, Sanath Kumar Sangameshwarapete, Ramesh Chikkamagaluru and Jagannatha Chikkamagaluru.

High School boys category: Sushanth-Magundi School, Santhosh-Magundi School, Devraj-Government school-Sangameshwarapete, Shreyas - St Mary’s School, Prasanna-Government School-Sangameshwarapete and Thejas Gowda-Amber Valley school. Girl’s category: Archana-Government School-Magundi, Bhagyajyothi, Sangameshwarapete School, Trisha-St Marthas School-Mudigere, Pooja-Magundi School, Ganavi - Sangameshwarapete government School and Sushmitha-Sangameshwarapete Government School.

Higher Primary boy’s category: Gautham-Sports School-Chikkamagaluru, Pavan-Sports School-Chikka- magaluru, Shivaraj-Devadana School, Hemanth Kumar-Malnad Vidya Samsthe- Chikkamagaluru, Mohit Gowda-Poornaprajna School-Sangam- eshwarapete and Nandan-Sports School-Chikkamagaluru.

Higher Primary Girl’s category: Dhanya - Devadana School, Nithya-Kuvempu School, Suma - Sports School-Chikkamagaluru, Vibhuthi-Sports School-Chikkamagaluru, Ankitha-Devadana school and Yashaswini-Dantaramakki School, Chikkamagaluru.

School awards were bagged by Chikkamagaluru Sports School, Devedana School and Dantaramakki School in the Higher Primary category.

Malenadu Vidyasamsthe and Poornaprajna School-Sangameshwarapete in the boys school.

 Government School-Sangameshwarapete, Government School-Magundi, Malenadu Vidyasamsthe and Government School-Machagondanahalli were awarded in the High School boys and girls categories.

The award function was held at district playground. Sportspersons Ankitha and Harish, Athletic Association Club president Uday Pai, vice president Vijay Kumar, Coaches Sanjeev, Girish, Francis and Mary Lobo were present.

Sportspersons Lavina Lobo, Club Secretary Manjunath, members Sunitha, Joseph, Prakash Jain, Dilip and Umakanth gave away the trophies.

Twelve schools and 30 participants won the awards. A total of 550 participants took part in the marathon.
