A BMTC driver, who reportedly caused an accident by his negligent driving, killing a two-wheeler rider on the spot in Madiwala on Sunday morning, was chased down and thrashed by members of the public.

The driver, Munaf, was later handed over to the police who have booked him for rash driving. Police said that the accident took place at 6.45 am on Begur main road.

Pattabhiraman, a native of Tamil Nadu and a resident of Devarachikkanahalli, was riding a bike to his office, Vastu Developers, in Kengeri. Munaf is said to have been driving the bus at top speed at that time.

He lost control over the bus and rear-ended Pattabhiraman’s bike, tossing him up in the air. Pattabhiraman was then crushed by the rear wheel of the bus and bled to death, the police added.

A nervous Munaf jumped out of the bus when he saw the public gathering at the spot. People then chased him down and beat him up black and blue.
