The Hennur police have cracked a murder which took place six years ago. The police have found that Selva Kumar, a mason from and resident of Babusapalya, who was reported missing, was actually murdered by his friend on August 26, 2009, over a trivial matter.

The accused Mohan, a labourer and native of Vaniyamabadi in Tamil Nadu, had buried Kumar’s body in an isolated land in Chikkananjunda Reddy Layout in Babusapalya and had fled the City. The body was exhumed on Friday.

The police said Kumar, a native of Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu, was residing along with his wife Usha and children Jayaprakash and Kavya, who are studying in a private school.
On August 26, 2009, Kumar and Mohan got into a tiff while playing cards. Mohan had borrowed Rs 3,000 from Kumar. But Mohan declined to return the money.

What’s more, he demanded Kumar to return his Rs 300. In the ensuing fight, Mohan hit Kumar with a wooden log. The impact was such that Kumar died on the spot. Mohan buried the body in a secluded place in Babusapalya and left for his native in Tamil Nadu along with his family.

The give-away

A police officer said, “The incident came to light on June 11, 2015, when Elumalai was approached by one of his friends, Swaminathan, who asked him if his brother was missing. Elumalai told him about Kumar who had gone missing since 2009. Swaminathan then told him that in a drunken stupor, Mohan’s relatives had revealed about their cousin killing Kumar. That is when they approached the Hennur police station and lodged a missing complaint on July 1, 2015.”

“The police picked up a few persons for questioning, who gave out the name of Mohan. They tracked Mohan to Vaniyambadi and he confessed to have committed the crime. He showed us where he had buried the body and due permission was taken from the Assistant Commissioner to exhume it. The body has sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further examination,” added the officer.

A murder case has been registered in Hennur police station and investigation is being carried out.
