Metro adds colour to new extension

Last Updated 04 July 2015, 02:38 IST

An enormous station with a new colour scheme designed in-sync with the technical sophistications under DMRC’s phase 4 project, a 45-metre long steel span to make trains cross the Delhi-Ambala section of the Northern Railway and an interchange facility for the next level.

Such are the highlights of the new Jahangirpuri to Samaypur Badli corridor, an extension of the existing Yellow Line, on which trial runs began on Friday. This section will be thrown open for public after successful trials and getting the mandatory approvals, said DMRC. The construction work for this elevated stretch under the DMRC’s phase 3 project is almost complete.

Various agencies worked in close proximity to construct the corridor, said officials with DMRC. “Some 200 metric tonne steel was required to make a 45-metre long steel span so that trains cross the Delhi-Ambala section of the Northern Railway,” an official said.

The DMRC had to continue the contruction work without hindering the traffic movement on the Outer Ring Road and on the tracks of Northern Railway, he added. This 4.4-km elevated stretch has three stations: Badli, Rohini Sector 18 and Samaypur Badli. The Badli Mor will become an interchange station with the proposed Mukundpur-Janakpuri (West) section.

“It’s also a huge station which will carry the load of two platforms one with phase 3 and another under phase 4.”

The station will also have a different colour scheme. The Red Line commuters boarding Metro from Rohini will be able to save up to 30 minutes to reach Rajiv Chowk with the opening of the Jahangirpuri-Samaypur Badli corridor.
