Edn dept cracks whip on teaching staff

Following the unsavoury experience, after conducting Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) exams for recruiting assistant professors  to various colleges in 2009, Department of Collegiate Education has woken up to ensure fair practice.

The department has directed all the degree colleges to file criminal cases against those who have furnished fake Ph D and M Phil certificates for the job.

In his recent missive, Under Secretary to Department of Collegiate Education, Tukaram Kalyankar has sought a report on follow up action within September 31 from the principals of government and aided first grade colleges in the State including Mysuru and surrounding districts. The follow up action is related to authenticity of the certificates from the competent authorities or the universities.

The recent order may put many in a fix, even as the matter is being heard in Supreme Court. Following the recruitment of 1,718 candidates with Ph D and M Phil to their added qualification, six years ago, the issue snowballed into a controversy, eventually landing in the court.

Most of the successful candidates had secured certificates from out of the State universities. Moreover, the authorities had not verified the authenticity of the certificates. If the certificates were found fake during the verification, criminal cases have to be  booked against the accused, the order states further.

The order remains even for the future recruitments and credentials of every teaching faculty should be verified during March and September every academic year.

When contacted Regional Joint Director, Mysuru, Roopraj Chandan confirmed to have received the missive from the higher ups. The educational qualification of the faculty including PG and other courses will be verified as per the guidelines.
