Chandrika in final

Unseeded Chandrika Joshi came up with a fine display to shock top seed SB Apoorva 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 in an all-Karnataka girls’ singles semifinal in the KTPPA-AITA under-14 Championship Series Junior tennis tournament at the Topspin Academy courts here on Thursday.

In the final on Friday, Chandrika will take on Tamil Nadu lass Shruthi P, who edged past Karnataka’s Shimran KS 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 in a tough encounter.

 In the boys’ singles semifinals, top seed Rajesh Kannan of Tamil Nadu subdued a spirited third seed Sandesh Kantimahanti of Karnataka 7-6, 6-2 and set-up a title clash with unseeded Subash Paramasivam.

Paramasivam defeated A Deepak of Karnataka 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

SB Apoorva and KS Shimran  claimed the girls doubles title, after their rivals Divija and  Paarvi Patil conceded in the final.

Results (semifinals): Boys’ singles: Rajesh Kannan (TN) bt Sandesh Kantimahanthi (Kar) 7-6 (5), 6-2; Subash Paramasivam (TN) bt Deepak A (Kar) 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Doubles, final: Vishal Reddy/ Nikhil Niranjan bt Sandesh K/ Arjun Sriram 6-3, 7-5.
Girls’ singles: Chandrika Joshi (Kar) bt SB Apoorva (Kar) 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (1); Shruthi P (TN) bt Shimran KS (Kar) 7-6 (3), 4-6, 7-6 (3).

Doubles semifinals: Divija/ Paarvi Patil bt Kanika Sivaraman/ Viveha Sivaraman 4-1, 4-1; KS Shimran/ SB Apoorva bt Shruthi P/ Chandrika Joshi 4-2, 5-3.
