1,417 NCC cadets perform yoga

A total of 1,417 National Cadet Corps (NCC) from 75 schools and colleges in Mangaluru took part performed Yoga to mark the International Yoga Day, at Canara High School, Urwa in Mangaluru on Sunday. 

The session comprised of 16 yoga postures, three types of pranayama, one kriya, two prayers, one meditation and an oath. The cadets performed yoga for 33 minutes, under the guidance of Yoga expert G N Kushalappa Gowda. 

Inaugurating the programme, MLC Ganesh Karnik said during the first International Yoga Day celebrations, the largest congregation of world will come under a common cause and 20 crore people from various countries perform yoga on the occasion. 

Yoga keeps one physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually fit and helps one attain enlightenment. Meanwhile saying that the practice of yoga must not be confined to any single day. The MLC later took part in the yoga session.

After prayer and sheethalikarana, 16 yoga postures thadasana, vrikshasana, padahasthasana, ardhachakrasana, trikonasana, bhadrasana, vajrasana, ardha ushtrasana, shashankasana, vakrasana, bhujangasana, shalabhasana, makarasana, sethubandhasana, pavanamuktasana and shavasana were done by the students.

This was followed by kapalbhathi (kriya) and three types of pranayama namely anulom-vilom, bhramari pranayama (type one) and bhramari pranayama (type two). After meditation and prayer, the session concluded with sankalpa(pledge). 

Yoga teacher, Kushalappa said the yoga postures chosen for the session were recommended by the department of Ayush, Government of India and were based on the syllabus prescribed by the department. These are the common postures to be practiced on the day, all around the country.

He further said the participants were trained by nine trainers from the department of Ayush, during the last 15 days.
