JOIN USThe West Division police have arrested a four-member gang, including a woman, which befriended families and made away with valuables from their houses.
The arrested are Prasad Kumar, 24, from Tumakuru; Latha, 32, and Prasanna, 28, both from Ramanagara; and Manje Gowda, 26, a native of Hassan. The police have recovered 1.29 kg of gold and 2.618 kg of silver ornaments from the gang.
Their modus operandi was to befriend house owners, divert their attention and then make away with valuables. Latha, used to talk to women in the house, win their trust, distract them and take away the house keys stealthily. She then handed over the keys to Gowda and Prasanna, who used to burgle the respective houses. Latha and Prasanna later pawned the jewels in various financial companies and pawn shops. The police said the gang led a lavish lifestyle.
Cases have been registered against them at Chandra Layout, Jnanabharathi, Kumaraswamy Layout, Kumbalgodu and Tavarkere police stations. All the four were residing in different parts of the City.
2 killed in road accidents
Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in Chikkajala and RT Nagar in the early hours of Tuesday.
A 50-year-old man was mowed down by a speeding cab near Kadiganahalli Gate in Chikkajala. The deceased Veerappa was a resident of Vijipura and a labourer. He was on his way to Meenukunte Cross to distribute wedding cards. At around 5.50 am, when he was crossing the road near Kadiganahalli Gate, he was run over by a cab. Veerappa suffered head injuries and was rushed to a private hospital but was declared brought dead.
In another incident, a 34-year-old man died on the spot after he lost control of his bike and rammed into a pavement on Deve Gowda Road in RT Nagar. Afroze Ahmed, a resident of Vinobha Nagar and a private company employee, was returning home at around 12.15 am when the incident occurred.
