Traffic snarls at rally venue

Last Updated 26 May 2015, 02:19 IST

Roads around Connaught Place in central Delhi were choked on Monday evening due to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s public cabinet meeting at Central Park.

Around 1 pm, Delhi traffic police even issued a traffic alert expecting 3,000-4,000 people to attend the function at 6 pm. The motorists were requested to avoid inner and outer circles of CP between 5 pm to 7 pm.

Expecting roads to be choked during rush hour, traffic police had also planned road diversions. However, they were removed and opened for traffic around 5 pm.

“There was traffic on the roads, but it was not as bad as what we expected. It was regular Monday traffic and did not hit roads beyond one kilometre radius,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla.

Heavy traffic was reported from Gole Market, Paharganj, Janpath, Barakhamba Road, K G Marg, Panchkuian Road and Minto Road. Those roads on which diversions were removed were Tilak Marg and Sikandra Road, among others.
