JOIN USThree major fires were reported from a market and two factories in the capital on Thursday. In the first incident, a fire broke out at Keshopur vegetable market in west Delhi around 10.40 am.
The Delhi Fire Services sent five fire tenders to the spot. “The fire broke out in two trays of vegetables and two vehicles carrying vegetables,” said a fire officer.
It took about an hour to douse the flames and the situation was brought under control by 11.35 am.
No casualty was reported. Keshopur is one of the biggest vegetable markets in the city and attracts trucks from Haryana and Punjab. Despite the size of the market, it lacks basic fire safety arrangements.
Second fire
Another fire was reported at a factory manufacturing air cooler near Udyog Nagar Metro station in north-west Delhi.
Thick plumes of smoke were seen billowing out of the building around 12.30 pm and 22 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
The fire, suspected to be due to a short-circuit, broke out on the second floor and soon spread to the other floors.
“There was cardboard and packing material which caught fire. The fire was doused at 1.50 pm,” the officer added.
When the fire broke out, around 15 people were in the building. While most escaped, two security guards got trapped at different floors. Raj Kumar and Shiv Kumar were rescued by the firefighters.
Third blaze
The third fire gutted a furniture factory near Kapashera border in south-west Delhi. Twenty-six fire tenders were sent to the spot. It took the firemen 30 minutes to douse the flames which was reported around 1.30 pm.
“The cause of the fire has not been detected yet, but there were poor electrical arrangements in the factory. An initial investigation suggests that short-circuit could have been the cause,” the officer said. Police are ascertaining the value of goods lost in the fire.
