Trees, power poles uprooted after heavy rain

Several trees and over 60 electric poles were uprooted following heavy rain coupled with gusty wind lashed across Bantwal taluk on Monday.

The electric poles have been damaged at Bantwal, B C Road, Panemangaluru, Melkar, Vagga, Siddakatte, Vittal, Mani, Ukkuda, Salethoor Mescom branches.

A huge tree uproooted at Mani, damaging three transformers, thus incurring a loss of Rs six lakh.

The work on repairing the electric poles and wires are in progress. The power supply in Bantwal was disrupted and could be restored on only Tuesday afternoon. The residents feel that the Mescom has failed in chopping the branches near the electric poles.

Atleast 15 houses have been damaged at Ananthadi in Vittal. One house has been collapsed in the rain. Around 18 houses have been damaged at Nitla mudnoor. Crops in two acre land at Ananthadi and one acre land at Netla mudnoor have been damaged.

The house of Babu Purusha has developed cracks when lightning struck the house at Idkidu. The electric wires, equipment and doors have been damaged completely. Over 55 electric poles and four transformers have been damaged in Vittal and Mani Mescom branches.

Five persons suffered injuries when lghtning struck a house, at Rekhya near Kokkada. The house belongs to Podiya. The injured are Mecchu, wife of Podiya, his relatives Keerthan, Dharmapala, Shivaprasad, Sowmya.
