The premises of the Karnataka Rajya Gramodyoga Mandali Training Centre, at Badanavalu, near Nanjangud in the district, comprising primarily of dilapidated structures, will be the venue for the Badanavalu Satyagraha, scheduled to be launched today.

The Satyagraha, aimed at creating awareness about sustainable living and development practices, is being led by theatre personality Prasanna. The movement has garnered support from several organisations in the region, with a large number of supporters expected to participate during its launch.

The Satyagraha is scheduled to be flagged off at 9.30 pm, by two women who have been employed in the handloom industry for the past several years.

The organisers of the Satyagraha feel that all constraints in one’s life are due to human greed. “Greed has eroded values and relations among people. Therefore, the only way to reform our society is by adopting sustainable practices,” they said.

Two stages have been erected at the centre premises, where sessions will be held from 11 am. Discussions will revolve around agriculture, rural development, conservation of Western Ghats and others. Ujramma, president of All India Handloom Weaver’s Association is expected to participate and deliver talks. Experts will deal on the future of education, agriculture and industries.

The venue will also host several cultural events, including ‘Yantrarakshasa Mardini’ and two other plays. Activists and social workers from various parts of the State are expected to participate in the Satyagraha. Padayatras, taken out from Mysuru, Nanjangud, Chamarajanagar, H D Kote and other places, will reach the venue ahead of the inaugural function.

Badanavalu declaration
On Saturday, a meeting on Badanavalu declaration was held. Freedom fighter Doreswamy criticised the ‘Make in India’ campaign of the Central government. The campaign is an invitation to multi-national companies to exploit and loot the country’s resources. Former prime minister Indira Gandhi too had launched a similar ‘Made in India’ campaign. Under such campaigns, politicians have hoodwinked people, he said.
