Boy missing for two years reunited with his parents

An eight-year-old boy who had gone missing from north Delhi over two years ago was reunited with his parents after overcoming many hurdles.

Narveer’s photograph matched with that of a child reported missing at Model Town police station and that finally helped track down his parents who had also changed their mobile phone number since then. They had also left Delhi to settle in their hometown in UP’s Badaun district.

The boy was lost in a market behind Azadpur Metro station in September 2012. He subsequently reached Bulandshahr in UP where he was admitted to a children’s home.

During his stay, he mentioned to home warden that his parents lived in Delhi, but couldn’t remember the address. He was moved to a children home in Mansarovar Park  in Delhi in March last year.

Though much later, the shifting brought him luck as a police team recently visited the home to reunite missing children with their parents under the special drive ‘Operation Milaap’.

Photographs of all the children living in this home and others in the north-east district were collected and matched with the records of missing children maintained with the police.

“During this process, Narveer’s photograph matched with that of a child reported missing from Model Town area. A mobile phone number was found mentioned in the FIR copy, but it was found to be out of service,” said Veenu Bansal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East).

A visit to the Model Town police station revealed that Narveer’s parents were permanent residents of village ‘Keharpur Khurd’ under the jurisdiction of Dataganj police station in Badaun.

The police team contacted the station house officer (SHO) of Dataganj, but he said no such village exists under the jurisdiction of that police station. “We checked again and found out that a village by the name of ‘Deharpur Khurd’ existed in the jurisdiction of Dataganj police station,” said Bansal on Friday.

The Dataganj SHO was again contacted and explained about the possibility of this village being the one they were looking for. The SHO sent a constable to the village to find whether Narveer’s father Pancham lived there.

Once he identified his son through photographs, Narveer was handed over to him on Thursday, said police.
