5 killed, 28 injured as tractor topples

Five people, including two children, were killed and 28 others injured when a tractor ferrying a marriage party toppled on Lokikere Road near Belavanur village in Davangere taluk on Friday.

The deceased are Vijayamma, 58, Gayathramma, 45, Ningamma, 55, Arpitha, 11, and Yashwant, 5, all from Lokikere village. They were returning to their village after attending a wedding in Davangere. When the tractor toppled, both the engine and the trailer fell over the travellers, said the police. The injured were treated at the Chigateri district hospital. Two persons who were critically injured were rushed to a private hospital. Senior police officers inspected the spot.
