Why is Devarahipparagi MLA cut up with his party govt?

Last Updated 13 April 2015, 19:23 IST

Ruling party MLA from Devarahipparagi A S Patil (Nadahalli), who is likely to face action from the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) for demanding a separate Statehood for north Karnataka, has been upset with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for not fulfilling many of his demands.

Sources in the CLP said Patil has become disgruntled with the government for not heeding his demands, especially with respect to irrigation projects proposed to be taken up in his constituency. He had been hitting out at Water Resources Minister M B Patil in almost every CLP meeting for neglecting his constituency and used to demand that the chief minister should take action against him. They both hail from Vijayapura district.

A S Patil had in 2009 taken out a padayatra of farmers from his constituency to Almatti dam demanding completion of all pending irrigation projects in the Vijayapura district. His padayatra had got a good response with about 50,000 farmers taking part. He was of late feeling embarrassed in front of his voters for not being able to ensure completion of long-pending projects despite his own party coming to power, the sources said.
As a result, he charged the chief minister with not allocating sufficient funds for irrigation projects in north Karnataka.

This apart, the government’s decision to shelve a proposal to carve out new taluks did not go down well with A S Patil. Devarahipparagi was one of the 43 new taluks proposed to be carved out. He had raised the issue repeatedly in CLP meetings as well as the Legislative Assembly, but to no avail.

‘Govt failed to respond’
When contacted, A S Patil said he was not bothered about any show-cause notice. “I waited for almost two long years, but the government failed to respond. The chief minister refused to act on my request despite my repeated appeals in the CLP meetings,” he stated.

Patil, who is currently staging an indefinite protest at Goa’s Baina beach opposing eviction of Kannada-speaking people, accused Siddaramaiah of not taking any action to rescue the affected people at the beach.

Majority of the affected people belong to Ahinda. They are neglected because they are from north Karnataka, he charged.
